Satellite & Space Mission Simulator
A software environment for exploring satellite missions, orbital behavior and space operations — designed to support space education, mission training and research without requiring access to a real spacecraft.
What the simulator is
The NorthernSky Space Simulator is a software environment for exploring and simulating space missions, satellite behavior, orbital scenarios and operational concepts. Instead of requiring access to real spacecraft, it lets you work with simulated satellites, ground stations and mission timelines — useful for learning orbital mechanics, testing a mission concept, or training on operational workflows before they matter for real.
From orbital concepts to mission scenarios
The simulator is an evolving platform — the areas below describe capabilities that exist today in early form, alongside areas of active development. Where a capability is still planned rather than available now, the description says so.
Orbital Mechanics & Visualization
Explore how satellites move through orbit, with visualizations of orbital paths and behavior.
Satellite Pass Prediction
Model when a simulated satellite is expected to be visible from a given ground location.
Ground Station Visibility
Explore communication windows between simulated satellites and ground stations.
Mission Planning & Timelines
Lay out mission timelines and explore how operational scenarios unfold.
Spacecraft State & Telemetry Simulation
Simulated spacecraft state and telemetry for exploring how missions are monitored.
Constellation Scenarios
Future versions of the simulator are envisioned to explore multi-satellite constellation behavior.
Mission Operations Training
An environment for understanding mission workflows and operational decision-making.
What-If Mission Scenarios
Explore alternative mission scenarios without the cost or risk of real spacecraft operations.
Space Education & Research
A foundation for learning orbital mechanics, satellite missions and space operations concepts.
Simulation, not real-world operations
It’s worth being direct about scope: the simulator works with simulated scenarios, not live satellite telemetry or real operational data. NorthernSky Space does not currently operate real satellites or ground stations, and nothing in the simulator represents a live tracking or command-and-control feed. That’s a deliberate distinction, not a limitation to apologize for — a simulation tool doesn’t need real operational access to be useful for planning, learning and testing. As the architecture develops, the plan is to support secure connectors for customer-owned infrastructure, but that’s future work rather than something available today.
Who the simulator is for
Aerospace software teams use it to validate a workflow before it touches production systems. Researchers use it to study satellite tracking and space situational awareness concepts. Educators use it to teach orbital mechanics and mission operations in a way students can interact with directly. Space startups — often working with a single CubeSat or small LEO-satellite mission — use it to de-risk a mission plan before committing to a launch. It sits alongside the rest of NorthernSky Space’s technology direction, which covers the software layer in more depth.
